California WaterFix is a plan by Gov. Gerry Brown to upgrade the state’s old water infrastructure to move water in an environmentally friendly manner. The current system is outdated and unreliable, and dependent on levees that put clean water supply at risk from earthquakes and sea level rise. This would be accomplished by building one or two tunnels to carry fresh water from the Sacramen to River under the Sacramen to-San Joaquin Delta toward the intake stations for the State Water Project and the Central Valley Project.
WaterFix will provide reliable, clean and secure water to almost 27 million Californians and 3 million acres of farmland. Alongside California EcoRes tore, the largest res toration project in the Delta in decades, WaterFix will improve environmental conditions in the Sacramen to-San Joaquin Delta. It will reduce the harmful impacts of the existing infrastructure by moving the system away from endangered fish habitats and reinstate more natural river flows in the Delta.
